JORNAL, if it walks like a duck and it talks like a duck it’s a duck is a periodical dedicated to artist’s books and independent publishing. It aims to publicise scientific production on what we call author’s publishing, and to foster collaboration between artists, publishers and researchers, students and teachers, who produce or focus on these objects, or who study related subjects. The origin of Jornal, If it walks like a duck and it talks like a duck it’s a duck is based on two publishing projects developed by leading schools, such as the Journal of Artists’ Books[1] (ed. Columbia College Chicago) and Sans Niveau Ni Metre[2] (Cabinet du Livre d’Artiste/Université Rennes 2).
Visual essays related to visual, concrete and experimental poetry are accepted, both in terms of their convergence and in terms of the minimal differences between these designations. Ulisses Carrión will state that a book is not a showcase of words, nor a bag of words (transl. Amir Brito Cadôr Ed. C/Arte). In A Proposição 2.01, Poesia Experimental (ed. Ulisseia, 1965), E. M. de Melo e Castro says that in experimental poetry you come into direct contact with the reader-spectator through objects, posters, interventions, public actions, machines, etc., etc.
For this sixth issue of the Journal, we’re posing a few questions:
To see or to read? Seeing in silence or reading aloud? Do we move from images to writing or from words to images? And what about this angular or round drawing of handwritten words, which reveals so much about our moods?
Those interested should consult the submission guidelines (document in the links section)
