Sílvia Lourenço holds a PhD degree in Biology with a specialization in Marine Biology and Aquaculture and an MSc degree in Ecology, Management and Modelling of Marine Resources. Sílvia is an assistant researcher in the MARE-Marine and Environmental Sciences Centre and the ARNET – Aquatic Research Network research teams. At University of Leiria and Oeste, Sílvia conducts research in low-trophic and conservation aquaculture. Her main research interests include the development of production protocols for species of low trophic level, invertebrate nutrition, integrated multitrophic aquaculture and the mitigation of climate change impacts in production cycle. Sílvia (h-index 16) is an author and co-author of 39 peer-reviewed articles (13 as first author), co-author of five book chapters, and recently edited a research feature on “Aquaculture of emergent marine invertebrates” in Frontiers in Marine Science. She has collaborated on 17 projects since 2009 with a coordination role in two of them. In the last five years supervised ten master theses dedicated to different aspects of the research on aquaculture, sea urchin life cycle and production and fisheries. Currently, Silvia Lourenço is the main supervisor of two PhD candidates conducting research in: (1) environmental adaptation and transgenerational effects of ocean warming in sea urchin (2021.07188.BD) and; design for ecological wellbeing (2025.02345.BD).
