Susana Azevedo Cardal has a PhD in Design (focus on Visual Communication) from the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Lisbon (FAUL), where she completed her curricular year of Master’s degree in Design – Fashion Option. At the same time, since 2016 she has carried out research as a collaborating member of the Centre for Research in Architecture, Urbanism and Design (CIAUD), and from 2020 she joined the Design and Social Sciences Research Group. In 2006 she took a postgraduate course in Product Design at Bahia State University (UNEB), in Brazil, and in 2000 she graduated in Equipment Design from School of Arts and Design (ESAD), in Matosinhos.


From 1999 she was a designer in design and architecture offices and until 2006 she worked in various industrial companies developing the product from its creation to its dissemination in graphic media, both printed and digital. She continued as a freelancer after this date. From 2006 until 2017 she was a trainer at various training centers in the district of Leiria, as well as a secondary school teacher from 2011 to 2013 at School Eng.º Acácio Calazans Duarte (ESEACD), in Marinha Grande. In 2007, she joined the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria (IPL) as a teacher, namely at the School of Technology and Management (ESTG), where she taught Drawing A until 2009, as part of the Preparation Course for Access to Higher Education. Also at the same institution, from 2009 to 2015 she taught various curricular units in the CET – Development of Multimedia Products and was a supervisor in the work-based training component of the same, as well as from 2011 to 2013 she taught the UC Graphic Design in the Web-Marketing Postgraduate Programme.


Since 2014, she has been a lecturer on the Digital Marketing Postgraduate programme in a partnership between Leiria Business School (LBS) and IPLeiria’s School of Technology and Management (ESTG), where she teaches the UC Design and Graphic Advertising. From the 2020/21 academic year, she will also be teaching the UC Content Production and supervising internships on the Marketing degree at the same institution.
