LiDA – Laboratório de Investigação em Design e Artes is a research unit based at the Escola Superior de Artes e Design do Politécnico de Leiria (ESAD.CR). Conducts research activities in the domains of Design, Arts and Culture.

Its mission is to develop applied research, experimental development and knowledge transfer activities oriented towards a more sustainable future, seeking to improve education, health and inclusion, and to create more resilient and safer communities with a greater awareness of the natural world. To accomplish its mission LiDA develops partnerships with companies, museums, non-governmental associations, national and international research institutions with whom it shares common goals.

LiDA has a complete and multifaceted team of researchers, with experience in various domains, such as product design, communication design, interaction design, eco-design, participative design, multimedia, visual arts, photography, history, among others. The various competences existing in these domains allows LiDA to integrate multidisciplinary projects, codeveloping research focused on the profound challenges and transformations of the contemporary world.

The projects in this website seek to present the research activities of its members and are organized by LiDA’s main thematic areas, Design, Arts and Culture. However, all activities, projects, publications and opportunities for participation in scientific meetings can be reorganized by the visitor according to tranversal research topics arising from the 17 Goals defined by the United Nations in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. This can be done at any time by clicking on the tags that appear throughout the site.

LiDA seeks to actively contribute to the materialization of these goals, starting from speculation and dialogue with other disciplines as ways to stimulate  critical thinking and to propose solutions that increase the odds of achieving a better future.
