Catarina Leitão (1970) is an artist whose work is structured around drawing, sculpture, installation, and book. The processes of construction, adaptability, and hybridism are key points in her work. Between the two-dimensional and the three-dimensional, the artificial and the natural, the assembling and disassembling, her spatial vision sustains a language of sculpture with recourse to installation, drawing, and illustration.

Leitão has exhibited her work in venues such as Casa da Cerca, Almada; Galeria Carlos Carvalho, Lisbon; P.S.1/MoMA, New York; Aldrich Museum, Ridgefield, Connecticut; Socrates Sculpture Park, New York; Wavehill, Glyndor Gallery and Grounds, New York; Andrea Rosen Gallery, New York; Michael Steinberg, New York; Pedro Cera Gallery and Bronx Museum, New York; among others.
She has solo exhibitions at the Berardo-Sintra Collection and at the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum (Modern Collection). Among her awards and residencies are The New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship, 2009, Center for Book Arts, 2007, Triangle Arts, 2006, Sharpe Foundation, 2004, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, 2003, Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant, 2001, Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian and Fundação Luso-Americana.

Leitão has a Ph.D. in Contemporary Art from the College of Arts, University of Coimbra, 2022, an MFA from the Hunter College City University of New York (2000), and graduated in Painting at the FBA University of Lisbon (1993). She has been lecturing at Escola Superior de Arte e Design das Caldas da Rainha since 2011.
