Elga Ferreira lives in Lisbon. She has a Ph.D. in Creative Technologies (2010) from the London School of Film, Media and Design, London, UK. In 2002 she completed a Master’s Degree in Multimedia at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa in Porto.
She has been lecturing Multimedia Design at ESAD – Escola Superior de Arte e Design in Caldas da Rainha since 2000 (she did not teach between 2004 e 2008) and between 2010 and 2015 at IADE – Creative University in Lisbon.
She is the coordinator of the Master in Design for Health and Wellbeing at ESAD – School of Art and Design of Caldas da Rainha. This master’s degree is pioneering and unique at national level in this area of studies and presents an innovative study plan as it integrates programmatic content that crosses the domain of design, with knowledge of the areas of life sciences and engineering.
She is a member of the coordinating committee and an integrated member of the Research Unit of LIDA –Research Laboratory in Design and Arts. Her research interests focus on the exploration of design in the area of health and well-being with the aim of creating products and services to optimize the work of healthcare professionals, promote the citizens’ quality of life, and reduce inequalities.
Between 2008 and 2012 she was a founding partner and interaction designer at the company NearInteraction. Between 2013 and 2015, she worked as an interaction design consultant at Share Smart Solutions.
In 2002 she was awarded the Ernesto Sousa Scholarship granted by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and the Luso-American Foundation for Development. In 2006 she was granted the SPEED Scholarship by Higher Education Funding Council England, UK.
