Ph.D. in Design, Head of LIDA – Design and Arts Research Lab, Program Coordinator of the Master’s degree in Product Design and Adjunct Professor in the field of product design at the School of Arts and Design of Caldas da Rainha (ESAD.CR) where lectures since 2001. He explores a humanized design approach, where human diversity assumes a central role in new products development.
Over the last 20 years, he has been conducting research in the area of inclusive design, focused on the development of anti-stigmatizing products related to aging and disability, which led him to publish several books and international scientific publications; to coordinate and participate in several projects; to conduct workshops; to guide academic work; and to regularly present his work in conferences.
In the field of inclusive design, he has collaborated with several institutions, namely as a consultant of the Design Response Unit of ExperimentaDesign (2010); as a member of the Technical Committee Accessibility and Inclusive Design of IPQ – Instituto Português da Qualidade (2009 – 2010); as a consultant of the Portuguese Design Centre (2001 – 2010); as a professional trainer in Inclusive Design at INR – National Institute for Rehabilitation (2009), IAPMEI – Institute for Support to Small and Medium Enterprises and Innovation (2006 – 2008), ICEP – Institute of Enterprises for External Markets (2005 – 2006) and EPUL – Lisbon Public Urbanisation Company (2004); and as a board member of APDR – Portuguese Association for Design and Rehabilitation, Portuguese representative at EIDD – European Institute for Design and Disability (2002 – 2004).
