Susana Anágua (b. 1976)
Lives in Lisbon
PhD in Contemporary Art and Culture from PPGARTES- UERJ, Rio de Janeiro (2018) and FAPERJ scholarship holder. MA in Digital Arts from the University of the Arts London – Camberwell College of Arts (2009) and recipient of a scholarship from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. She graduated from the Upper School of Arts and Design (ESAD.CR) in Caldas da Rainha (2004), where she currently teaches.
Her solo exhibitions include “Desterro”, Museu Nacional de Arte Contemporânea (MNAC) curated by Celso Martins (2017), Lisbon, “E a matéria se vê acabar… adeus composição”, Galeria Presença (2017), Porto, “Olhar Radar”, Galeria Graphos:Brasil (2012), Rio de Janeiro and “Desnorte/Northless”, project room of Centro de Arte Moderna da Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian (2008), Lisbon. Public projects such as; Prémio Arte Mar Cascais, 2011, “Carris Arte em Movimento”, installation at Elevador da Glória, (2010), Lisbon, and as part of the commemoration of the election of the “7 Wonders of Portugal”, Batalha Monastery (2008), Batalha.
Group exhibitions include “Wait” curated by Orlando Franco at the Berardo Museum, “A metade do céu” curated by Pedro Cabrita Reis at FAVS, “Cartografia do Poder”, Museu AfroBrasil, Parque Ibirapuera (2014), São Paulo; “Sete artistas ao décimo mês”, Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian (2008), Lisbon; “E=mc2”, Museu Nacional da Ciência e da Técnica, Coimbra 2006; “AntecipArte 05”, Estufa Fria (2005), Lisbon; “Prémio City Desk”, Centro Cultural de Cascais (2005), Cascais; “Movimentos perpétuos, Arte para Carlos Paredes”, Cordoaria Nacional in Lisbon, among others.
Her work is represented in the collections of the Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, MACE- Museu António Cachola, Elvas, Santander Espanha, Fundação PLMJ, Norlinda e José Lima and in private collections in Brazil and Portugal.
