Rui Matoso is a researcher in cultural policies, professor at ESAD.CR and cultural producer. He holds a master’s degree in Cultural Practices for Municipalities (FCSH – UNL) and is a doctoral student at the Center for Research in Applied Communication, Culture and New Technologies (CICANT), having obtained the title of specialist (IPLisboa, 2017). Since 2009, organizes training in cultural management (financing and project management).
At ESAD.CR, he teaches in the degree in Cultural Programming and Production and in the Master in Cultural Management. Previously, he taught at the Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema in the master’s degree in Theater (specialization in production); and at the Lusófona University of Communication and Culture Sciences. Investigated in ZKM | Center for Art and Media (Karlsruhe) and was a research fellow at the Vilém Flusser Archive (Berlin, Universitat der Kunst). He was Artemrede’s scientific consultant for the 2015-2020 Strategic and Operational Plan. In Évora (2014), he co-organized the cycle of conferences and edited the publication “Culture, Public Space and Development – What options for a transformative cultural policy?”.
He co-edited the book Art and Photography in Media Environments (Edições Lusófonas / European Communication Research and Education Association, 2016). In 2019, he was Moderator and Rapporteur of the 3rd Meeting of PERFORMART-Association for the Performing Arts, under the theme “Decentralization – what now?”. In 2023, he joined the Scientific and Artistic Commission of INN2023 – I International Conference on Media Innovation (FCSH-UNL). Organized, translated and edited the book Imagem, Arte e Cibernética – Vilém Flusser (Edições Lusófonas, 2022).
