The scanning and 3D printing of life-cast plant moulds carried out at LIDA is part of the research project for a PhD in Sculpture at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon (FBAUL), with a research grant awarded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) under a protocol with VICARTE – R&D Unit Glass and Ceramics for the Arts – FBAUL/NOVA (ref. UI/BD/152288/2021).
The PhD project, entitled “Flora Caldense: Life-cast Moulds of Plants from the Artistic Ceramics Industry of Caldas da Rainha”, starts from a batch of old moulds acquired from a Caldas da Rainha factory. A selection of life-cast moulds of plants gathered in this collection, is intended to address the technologies of scanning and 3D printing as non-invasive practices, while allowing the replication of the moulds and their preservation as cultural heritage.
Inserted in a research project financed by Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (FCT) under the protocol with VICARTE – Unidade de I&D Vidro e Cerâmica para as Artes – Faculdade de Belas Artes da Universidade de Lisboa / Universidade NOVA (ref. UI/BD/152288/2021).
