Multispecies Empathy: Empathic Apathy was developed and exhibited at the Ars Electronic Festival 2022: Planet B. The project considers whether contemporary approaches to environmental problems are different manifestations of human-centred approaches and their limited empathy.
Emphatic Apathy uses the correspondence between Miguel Santos and Margarita Köhl about the meaning of multispecies empathy in diverse contexts (socio-political, technological, philosophical, ecological). It forms the starting point of a collaborative and speculative narrative that slowly evolves and encourages interspecies dialogue. In this digital eco-empathic experiment, the text and sound recordings in Portuguese, German and English were used for future interpretation by two or three inhabitants (Machines? Other species? Dinosaurs?) from planets B, C, D, and E.
