In the 2021/2021 academic year, three artistic residencies were held as part of the Master’s Degree in Arts of Sound and Image.

The residencies were attended by students, the teachers Diogo Saldanha, Ricardo Jacinto and Susana Duarte and guest artists Pedro Tropa, Nuno Morão and Luísa Homem.

The residencies took place at the headquarters of the OSSO Cultural Association, in the village of S. Gregório, Caldas da Rainha.

The photography residency, marked by the presence of the artist Pedro Tropa, comprehended the experimentation of two devices for capturing light and sound signals from outside and inherent to our planet.

The tent from the project “Tent – Photographic Latency in Kepler’s Camera” allowed the strengthening of the relationship between LiDA and ESAD.CR students by making an object from an ongoing investigation available for experimentation. The object allowed photosensitised surfaces to be exposed and developed. Sounds were also captured using an antenna sensitive to low frequencies, which enabled the natural sounds of the landscapes around the residence to be captured. Subsequent editing and electronic modulation of the sounds and construction of a sound piece resulted in radio broadcasts to the stars.

During the Arts of Sound residency, in which the artist Nuno Morão took part, some parts of the River Azóia were followed, listened to and recorded. The sound collections resulted in a global audio broadcast created from live recordings of sunrises across different time zones.

With the company of the artist Luísa Homem, there was a joint journey, with the aim of collecting / apprehending experiences that opened up space for dialogue, reflection and the creation of a shared result at the end of the residency.
